Unbearable Noise from Motor Changing Speeds

I purchased this air conditioner last year for our bedroom. The cooling performance is good. On 30 degree days it can take a little while to cool the room down, but I have the cool air blowing at me so I don't mind. The main issue I have with this ac unit is that while it is running, the motor transitions from a gradual hum to a stronger gear, and when it does that it literally sounds like someone with a boot kicking the side of a washing machine as hard as they can! This sound will happen again when it transitions back to a lighter fan strength too. So it is extremely aggravating to try to sleep through. You literally get jump scares every time it goes off, and that's like every 15 or 20 minutes! We live in a townhouse, so the sound waking up the neighbours is a concern too. I would have returned it, but it's been opened and used. It cools the room, but is unusable at night. The actual noise while it runs is not that bad, it's just the noise the motor makes when it speeds up and down.

No, I do not recommend this product.
